Saint Patrick's Day {Informative Writing -- Holidays}

by L. Dani, 7th grade

Saint Patrick’s Day is a holiday (mainly in Ireland) celebrated on March 17th, the date when Saint Patrick died. It was originally a Christian feast in the 17th century. Nowadays the celebration involves public parades and festivals. It is also celebrated in the United Kingdom, Canada, the United States, Brazil, Argentina, Australia and New Zealand, and there are also parades in Japan. It is celebrated in more countries than any other national holiday. On that day people wear shamrocks and green clothes or they dress up as leprechauns. Leprechauns are Irish fairies. Unlike most fairies they aren’t pretty. They look like an old man and are about 0.6096 meters (2 feet) tall. They have pointy ears and they are dressed in green. They guard the gold at the bottom of the rainbows. They spend their time making shoes or looking for gold. On Saint Patrick’s Day famous Irish landmarks are lit up in green. A part of the celebration in Ireland is drinking alcohol. People criticize Saint Patrick’s Day because it is over commercialized. There are also sports events on Saint Patrick’s Day.

             2018
               Dec. 04

                        Nyíregyháza
                          Rákóczi Square

(I hope you see  the „Back to the Future” reference here ;) )

- Laky! Laky! Laky, are you even here? Szabolcs to the Earth! Come back to reality! –
- Wha? What happened? Did I miss something? –
- Well… sort of. OK, so we have like an, umm, half hour to look around the Advent Market and buy things. – said Szabolcs.
- Great! How much money have you got? I’ve got 1050 Fts. – I said.
- Uhh… Well… -
- So? –
- Uhh… I totally forget it. – said Szabolcs.
And I just looked at him with a pretty „Are you serious?” face.
Szabolcs. The teacher said like 50 quintrillion times to bring money today. How the hell did you forget?

-         Okay, then – I said .
We started looking around for chimney cake shops with cheap prices, but sadly, all of shop’s chimney cakes cost 500 Fts.
-         Oh,crap – I said – I can’t buy two chimney cakes, just one.
-         No problem – said Szabi – I don’t need chimney cake.
-         Guys! Come her..e! *voracious eating* These chimney cakes are AMAZING! They make it over an open fire! – said Niké.
-         Okay, I guess we can give it a try… - I said.

A little while later…

-         *eating* Umm.. It’s *biting into the potato* not really *OM NOM NOM :D* good – I said – This chimney cake was super good. But this „Potato-On-A-Skewer” thing has no taste.
-         Can I have some? Please? Please? Pretty pretty pleeeease? –Csongor asked me  – I am hungry.
-         Okay, I guess I can give you and Szabi a little bit  - I said.
-         I don’t want that stupid potato thing. It looks like an  CENSORED.
-         Hey! – said Csongor, upset by Szabi – It’s not that! Can I have a little more? –
-         Just a LITTLE more, OK? – I asked. – I only have 50 Fts now, so I can’t buy myself an another one!
-         Ok,ok, I heard it. Look! We’re almost at the school!
-         Great!

  2222244q Like 3 or 4 hours later…

-         SO YOU SPENT ALMOST ALL OF THE MONEY ON A CHIMNEY CAKE AND A POTATO THING? – asked my Mom very angry.
-         Mom, but it happened like…

:D Egypt Memory :D {A Holiday Memory}

by Jozsef, 6th grade

In the summer I went to Egypt with my family.
Egypt is really beautiful.
I went for one week. The first day me and my family discovered EGYPT. We explored around our hotel.
The second day, in the morning I ran the sea and swam.
The third day again I ran to the sea.
The fourth day me and my family went to Luxor. It’s really beautiful. To me the most beautiful thing there was the river.
I don’t remember the fifth and the sixth days.
On the last day me and my family went to the sea and we snorkeled. We saw many beautiful fish.
This trip was special for me because it was my first time on a plane and to a foreign country.

A Halloween Memory {A Holiday Memory}

by: Rebeka, 6th grade

Photo from web
Last year I had a memorable Halloween.

It was memorable, because I burned down a pillow.

That all started when I wanted to light a candle in the pumpkin. I took the candle to my room and I lit it. Then I took the candle outside to the pumpkin. When I went back inside I saw the pillow was on fire. I will never forget that Halloween!  😂

A Christmas Memory {A Holiday Memory}

by Irisz, 6th grade

I was making Christmas cookies with my mom. We started by mixing all of the ingredients. Then we rolled out the dough and cut out stars and socks. Stars are my favourite. Next we put the cookies into the oven. We baked them about ten minutes. We take out the cookies and while they cool we take sugar and water and make the icing. In the kitchen was a very good smell from the cookies.

Holiday: Easter {Informational Writing}

by Eva, 5th grade

Easter is a famous holiday. It’s celebrated between the end of March and the beginning of April. This  year it was on April Fools day too. This holiday is celebrated in many countries, cities and villages. It is a Christian holiday.

When Jesus 26-36 years old he was crucified. After the people put Jesus’s body in a tomb. After 3 days Jesus resurrected. The people went to see Jesus but Jesus wasn’t in the tomb. Then an angel came to tell the people Jesus is resurrected. But someone thought they’re lying because they saw how Jesus died. But then Jesus came to them and then they believed in Jesus.

At this holiday people in the UK and other countries bake hot cross buns. It’s a little cake with a cross in the middle. Hot cross buns have a song and in this song the kids sing about how much money they have to buy hot cross buns with, but the kids in the song are baking hot cross buns together. In real life in Hungary at Easter boys go to girls’ houses to water the girls with perfume. The girls give Easter eggs or chocolate to the boys, but sometimes the boys get money. Before Easter people make or buy decorations. Then people drink grape juice and eat wafers or bread, boiled eggs and horse-radish.
